Gaudist Blouse

A collage of five images showing a garden with people picking strawberries, tending to plants in a greenhouse, a woman and child at a garden table, chickens walking on a grassy lawn, and a red house with a garden in the background.

She’s a millennial mom who works with plants and gardens in her daily life. She’s deeply connected to the natural world and seeks clothing that reflects her values: sustainable pieces crafted from natural fibers, made to last, and gentle on the earth. Her style is effortless yet intentional, combining practicality with a love for textures and tones inspired by nature. For her, every garment is more than something to wear; it’s part of a thoughtful, earth-conscious lifestyle she’s proud to pass on to the next generation.

A collage of images showcasing the whimsical, organic architecture of the Casas das Histórias in Portugal, featuring curving, tubelike structures with irregular openings surrounded by lush gardens and colorful flower beds.

This blouse draws inspiration from the organic curves and intricate details of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture. Flowing lines mimic the sinuous forms of nature, while unexpected color and texture combinations echo his mosaic work and whimsical facades. The result is a piece that feels both dreamlike and structural.

Collage of images showing avocado-based items and kitchen scene. Top left: kitchen with a dried lace-like fabric made from avocado skins hanging over the sink. Center: black spoon with dark liquid resting on a dyed fabric with avocado skins. Top right: decorative plate with cookies shaped like buttons, made from avocado pits, and illustrations of animals. Bottom right: bowl filled with avocado pits.

This garment is dyed using avocado skins, creating a warm, natural hue without the use of synthetic chemicals. The avocado pits are repurposed into hand-crafted buttons, ensuring that every component from fiber to fastening is 100% natural and biodegradable. Nothing goes to waste, and the entire piece can return to the earth at the end of its life. This innovative approach to closed-loop design was recognized with a $200 Sustainability Award from Cotton in the Classroom.

Collage of fashion design images showing a model wearing a white blouse in different angles, conceptualized and simulated with virtual fabric tools, with text indicating specific software and fabric technologies used for design development.
The image displays three sets of images related to clothing fitting and fabric simulation for children's and women's garments. The first row shows a 3D model of a child's jacket in size 6x, with two images: one colored with fabric sections in Optitex and the other showing the tension map in blue. The second row shows a 3D model of a girl's top in size 6x, displayed from the front and back, with the back view showing the tension map in beige. The third row features a 3D female doll modeling a shirt in size 6x, with front, back, and side views, simulated with FabriCast virtual fabric. The text indicates these images are from a Spring 2027 collection by Paige Householder, for women's and children's clothing.

Each pattern piece was 3D modeled in Optitex and V-Stitcher to visualize the garment before production. The design process began with a women’s Missy size 8, which was then scaled and adjusted down to a girls’ size 6X. This virtual fitting allowed for precise proportion changes, accurate drape simulation, and early refinement of fit details.

The design process began with detailed CAD illustrations showing both the women’s and girls’ versions of the Cotton Gaudist Blouse in “Walnut” and “Avocado” colorways. Using these technical flats as a blueprint, the final blouse was brought to life in 100% cotton floral-embroidered eyelet voile, naturally dyed with avocados and finished with hand-crafted avocado pit buttons. The finished garment mirrors the CAD vision, showcasing its sculptural collar, asymmetrical front closure, and open-back tie detail.
